Good thing to note, their Saturday technician does leave at 1. I called ahead to check if they could receive a tow as I had a flat and was maybe 2000 feet down the road, and I think whoever answered the phone was in a corporate office and saw the same listed hours I did. He said that it would be fine as long as I was there by 2. I arrived around 1:20pm. This would've been a 1 star moment, as the technician had in fact left for the day, but I'm actually really impressed with how they handled it. The tech who left wasn't able to help, but the woman manning the counter today bent over backwards to help me, helped change my tire to a spare I had in the back so I could limp to another nearby tire shop, and filled all my tires with air to help make sure I could make it there. TL;DR, terrible corporate, but excellent people at the shop level.

About Tire Sales and Replacement

Common questions and tips from our work with North Smithfield customers.

How do I know when I need new tires?
Check tread depth with a quarter: insert it upside down, and if you can see the top of Washington's head, the tire is worn out. Also look for uneven wear across the tread, cracks in the sidewall, bulges, or vibration at highway speed. In North Smithfield winters, worn tread turns a wet or snowy road into a real problem long before the tire is bald.
Do I need to replace all four tires at once?
Not always, but it depends on your drivetrain. All-wheel-drive vehicles usually require all four to be closely matched in tread depth to avoid drivetrain strain. On front or rear-wheel drive, replacing in pairs on the same axle is fine. We measure the tread on all four and tell you honestly what your specific vehicle needs before you buy anything.
Are winter tires worth it in Rhode Island?
For drivers dealing with hills, unplowed side streets, or early morning commutes, winter tires make a noticeable difference in stopping distance on cold pavement, not just snow. All-season tires harden below about 45 degrees. If you drive North Smithfield and Burrillville back roads through February, it is worth the conversation. Call us and we will price both options.

Tip

Rotate tires every oil change

The simplest way to get full life out of a set of tires is rotating them on a schedule, and pairing it with your oil change makes it easy to remember. Front tires on most vehicles wear faster than rears because they handle steering and most braking load. Rotation evens that out and can add thousands of miles to the set. We can do both in one visit.

Tip

Check pressure when the weather turns

Tire pressure drops roughly one PSI for every ten degrees the temperature falls, which is why the warning light tends to appear on the first cold New England morning. Underinflated tires wear the outer edges, hurt fuel economy, and handle poorly in rain. Check pressure when the tires are cold, before driving, and set it to the number on your door jamb sticker, not the tire sidewall.
