Good thing to note, their Saturday technician does leave at 1. I called ahead to check if they could receive a tow as I had a flat and was maybe 2000 feet down the road, and I think whoever answered the phone was in a corporate office and saw the same listed hours I did. He said that it would be fine as long as I was there by 2. I arrived around 1:20pm. This would've been a 1 star moment, as the technician had in fact left for the day, but I'm actually really impressed with how they handled it. The tech who left wasn't able to help, but the woman manning the counter today bent over backwards to help me, helped change my tire to a spare I had in the back so I could limp to another nearby tire shop, and filled all my tires with air to help make sure I could make it there. TL;DR, terrible corporate, but excellent people at the shop level.

About Flat Tire and Towing Support

Common questions and tips from our work with North Smithfield customers.

Can a flat tire be repaired or must it be replaced?
It depends on where the damage is. A puncture in the tread area, smaller than a quarter inch, can usually be plugged and patched safely. Damage to the sidewall or shoulder cannot be repaired because that part of the tire flexes constantly and a repair there can fail at speed. Bring it in and we will show you which one you have before recommending anything.
What should I do if I get a flat while driving?
Ease off the accelerator without braking hard, hold the wheel steady, and guide the car to a safe spot well off the road with your hazards on. Do not try to make it home on a flat, since driving on a deflated tire destroys the sidewall and can damage the wheel. Once you are safe, call (917) 593-9191 and we will talk through your options.
How far can I drive on a spare tire?
A compact temporary spare, the small donut, is generally rated for about 50 miles at speeds under 50 mph. It is meant to get you to a shop, not to finish your week. A full-size spare can be driven normally but should still be checked, since spares that sit for years lose pressure and age. Get the original tire repaired or replaced promptly.
Do you accept vehicles brought in by tow?
Yes, we accept tows at the shop. If your car is not safe to drive, call (917) 593-9191 and we will work with you on getting it here and look at it as soon as we can. Let us know what happened and any symptoms before the breakdown, since that helps us start diagnosing faster.

Tip

Know where your spare and tools are

Check now, not on the shoulder of Route 146 in the dark. Find your spare, jack, and lug wrench, confirm the spare actually holds air, and locate the wheel lock key if your vehicle has locking lug nuts. That missing key is the single most common reason a roadside tire change turns into a tow. We can check all of it during your next visit.
