Good thing to note, their Saturday technician does leave at 1. I called ahead to check if they could receive a tow as I had a flat and was maybe 2000 feet down the road, and I think whoever answered the phone was in a corporate office and saw the same listed hours I did. He said that it would be fine as long as I was there by 2. I arrived around 1:20pm. This would've been a 1 star moment, as the technician had in fact left for the day, but I'm actually really impressed with how they handled it. The tech who left wasn't able to help, but the woman manning the counter today bent over backwards to help me, helped change my tire to a spare I had in the back so I could limp to another nearby tire shop, and filled all my tires with air to help make sure I could make it there. TL;DR, terrible corporate, but excellent people at the shop level.

Common questions and tips from our work with North Smithfield customers.
- What does a check engine light actually mean?
- It means the computer stored a fault code, which could be anything from a loose gas cap to a failing sensor to a misfire that will damage the catalytic converter. A steady light means get it diagnosed soon. A flashing light means stop driving and call us, because that usually indicates an active misfire causing damage right now. We pull the code and then test to find the real cause.
- How do I know if it's the alternator?
- Common signs include dimming or flickering headlights, a battery warning light on the dash, electrical accessories acting strangely, or a car that dies shortly after a jump start. A whining noise that changes with engine speed can also point to the alternator bearing. We test output under load before condemning the part, since a failing battery can create similar symptoms.
- What are the warning signs of transmission trouble?
- Delayed engagement when shifting into drive or reverse, harsh or slipping shifts, unusual whining, or a burnt smell from the fluid all warrant attention. Transmission problems caught early are often fluid or sensor related. Ignored, they become far more expensive. Bring it in while the symptom is still intermittent, and we will inspect the fluid and diagnose before recommending anything major.
Tip
Describe the symptom, not the diagnosis
The most useful thing you can tell us is exactly what the car does and when. Does the noise happen cold or warm, at idle or at speed, while turning or braking? Does it come and go? That detail narrows the diagnosis fast and saves you diagnostic time. Jot it down before you call (917) 593-9191, especially for anything intermittent.
