Good thing to note, their Saturday technician does leave at 1. I called ahead to check if they could receive a tow as I had a flat and was maybe 2000 feet down the road, and I think whoever answered the phone was in a corporate office and saw the same listed hours I did. He said that it would be fine as long as I was there by 2. I arrived around 1:20pm. This would've been a 1 star moment, as the technician had in fact left for the day, but I'm actually really impressed with how they handled it. The tech who left wasn't able to help, but the woman manning the counter today bent over backwards to help me, helped change my tire to a spare I had in the back so I could limp to another nearby tire shop, and filled all my tires with air to help make sure I could make it there. TL;DR, terrible corporate, but excellent people at the shop level.

Common questions and tips from our work with North Smithfield customers.
- How long does a car battery last?
- Typically three to five years, and New England shortens that. Summer heat accelerates internal wear while winter cold cuts available cranking power, so a battery that felt fine in October can fail on the first below-freezing North Smithfield morning. If yours is past three years, have it tested before winter rather than discovering the problem in a parking lot. Testing takes only a few minutes.
- Is it my battery or my alternator?
- They produce similar symptoms but need different repairs. If the car starts fine after a jump and then dies again while driving, that points to the alternator not recharging the system. If it starts after a jump and runs fine until the next cold morning, the battery is more likely. We test both the battery and the charging system so you are not buying a battery that will die the same way.
- Why does my battery die from short trips?
- Starting the engine draws a large amount of current, and the alternator needs sustained run time to put that charge back. A five-minute drive to the store and back never fully recovers it, so the battery slowly discharges over weeks. This is common for drivers doing short local runs around Slatersville or commuter-rail trips from Attleboro. A longer weekly drive or a maintenance charger helps.
Tip
Clean corroded terminals early
That white or bluish crust on battery terminals is corrosion, and it acts like a partial disconnect. It can cause slow cranking, flickering lights, or an intermittent no-start even when the battery itself is healthy. Cleaning the terminals and connections is quick and cheap, and we do it as part of battery service. If your car cranks slowly, mention it when you call.
